Ash Wednesday – What it means to us

In the Episcopal Church, Ash Wednesday marks the solemn beginning of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection leading to Easter, characterized by placing ashes on the forehead in the shape of a cross to symbolize repentance, mortality (“Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return”), and our baptismal covenant, calling us to a deeper spiritual journey and to turn towards God’s grace and redemption.

Ash Wednesday in the Episcopal tradition is a powerful, humble start to Lent, acknowledging our brokenness and mortality while pointing towards the hope of Easter and God’s redemptive power.

Join us this year to mark the beginning of Lent at our Ash Wednesday service.
